HORROR MOVIE REVIEW: 31

It’s day one of my HALLOWEEN CHALLENGE where I intend to see a horror movie a day during the month October and write a short review for each one.
It will be thirty-one reviews in total and the first film I have seen today is called exactly that: 31. Directed by Rob Zombie, the man behind Halloween remake, it’sa 70s stylized survival horror. Caught in a game of life and death five victims are put up against crazy killers and have 12 hours to survive and win their freedom.
Rob Zombie’s films were always hit or miss. As a director he is great at shooting something expensive looking, all done on shoe-string budgets, but often lacking in story and character development. 31 is not an exception, but it is well paced and never boring. There’s lots of swearing and a lot of blood and guts. Rob Zombie wants to be the Tarantino of horror, but trying to achieve it on his own merits.
The bottom line is: the script is just too raw for 31 to be a great film.

It is not the worst way to begin my HALLOWEEN CHALLENGE, but not the best entry to start for any of you, especially if you are new to horror.
