HORROR MOVIE REVIEW: BACKCOUNTRY

4/5 Jena and Alex are on a camping trip in the Canadian forest. They are trying to reach a picturesque place with a waterfall, but get lost on the way. It is not long before a bloodthirsty bear starts tracking them. The best thing about BACKCOUNTRY is how real it feels. The characters are easy to identify with, the dialogue effortless and the feel of isolation is authentic. Jena and Alex look exactly like someone we know. Jena is a successful beauty, and Alex is not the sharpest pencil in the crate, however he always tries to steal the lime light. Jena tries to stay out of his way, letting his star shine, but when things get troublesome she looses it, and what comes out of her during the argument is truthful, but ugly. Alex and Jena both crack under pressure, but which one of them is really fit to fight the battle of survival? BACKCOUNTRY is great on building suspense, but it does not shy away from gore. HORROR MOVIE REVIEW: POD

2/5 A brother and a sister are on a trip to the lake house to save their sibling who seems to be losing his mind. He has someone or something locked up in the basement. Is it just another delusion or the monster is real?  They will have to get down, to find out. If you fast forward to 19 minutes into the movie you may have a better ride with this little indie horror. There is too much senseless  badly written dialogue in the beginning, and it does not add anything to character development that is not clear later in the film. POD could have been fun if not for the some slow pacing and very ordinary acting. Performances aside, all characters look like they have just walked out of hair dressing saloon, that includes the deranged brother, who should look sweaty and unwashed (there doesn't seem to be a shower in the house, but even if there was, would he be thinking about washing up under the circumstances?)  On t...
